“The city of Baltimore is experiencing a resurgence now, but when I first moved here three years ago the only downtown Orthodox synagogue was rather rundown. Physically B’nai Israel was fine, but the congregation was mostly in their 70s and 80s.

I worked with a critical core group of 5 people in their mid 20s and early 30s to breathe some life back into the synagogue. We developed an aggressive outreach – advertising in the local Jewish newspaper, starting a Facebook group and holding Shabbat dinners and lunches. When people would call me about moving downtown, I touted the accessibility and extensive activities of the synagogue. I now sit on the Board and we’re hoping to offer classes this fall during the week."

Avi briefly returned to Cincinnati this summer to attend the Yavneh class reunion for 30 year olds. He is shown at the reunion with his parents, Ofra Weisberg (Rockwern faculty) and Dr. David Weisberg.
