All School Read Partnership with Hays Porter Elementary

Rockwern Academy and Hays Porter Elementary School, a public school in the West End, are partnering on an All School Read program based on the theme of Community.  All students in both schools are reading “Last Stop on Market Street” (written by Matt de la Peña, illustrated by Christian Robinson) and The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm” (co-written by LeVar Burton and Susan Schaefer Bernardo, illustrated by Courtenay Fletcher.) Matt de la Peña, Susan Bernardo and Courtenay Fletcher will be visiting both schools in the spring.

In addition to reading the books, students will be writing pen pal letters and/or skyping with each other. Groups of students from both schools will travel to the other school for the first author visit and reverse the travel for the second author visit.

Older students from both schools will get together with architecture students from DAAP at University of Cincinnati to build Little Free Libraries to be installed around Hays Porter Elementary School.  The 5th Grade class at Rockwern Academy is leading a book drive to collect books for the libraries.
